Using a variety of pens, inks and paintbrushes, students explore a range of drawing and texture-making techniques, experimenting with tonal values, shading and expressive mark-making. A key focus is understanding how light interacts with the face, observing the way it falls across different features and creates shapes, shadows and highlights in response to the underlying bone structure.

Working from their own photograph as a reference, students transform their image into a unique and expressive portrait. This personal connection makes the workshop immediately engaging, encouraging them to explore their identity, develop their artistic style and discover new creative possibilities.
