Unlock Creativity: Beautiful Mundane Creative Photography Workshop

This workshop is delivered using iPads and free to download apps.

Students are encouraged to look at their surroundings differently and to recognise the potential in things they might normally dismiss as boring, ugly or simply unimportant. Things like a metal sink, a section of wall, an old radiator, a light switch, a window frame, a discarded object or an interesting architectural detail. They then look at how these photographs can be manipulated and combined using different apps and techniques, layering images, experimenting with scale, colour, texture and composition to create completely new graphics.

The results can be surprisingly striking. Something as simple as a photograph of a cracked wall can become part of an intricate digital composition. A collection of unrelated textures can be layered together to create a completely new image. What began as a photograph of something ordinary becomes a piece of artwork.

One of the great things about photography is that you do not necessarily need an extraordinary subject in order to make an interesting image. Sometimes you simply need to look at an ordinary thing in an extraordinary way.

Photography is such a wonderful outlet for creativity because it encourages us to look, notice, question and experiment. The camera is only part of the process. The real creative tool is the imagination behind it.
